News LTA awards three contracts on CCL6 By Tris Thomas on September 21, 2017 · Leave a Comment Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the first three civil contracts for Circle Line 6 (CCL6) totalling S$1.75bn. Works on these three contracts are expected to commence by the end of 2017 and complete by 2025. The construction of the two-level underground station located south of Keppel Road, next to the Keppel Terminal, has been awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation Limited (Singapore Branch) and Nishimatsu Construction Co. Ltd. Joint Venture at a contract sum of S$313.8M. This is the first joint venture partnership between the two companies for a railway project in Singapore. The construction of the stretch of cut-and-cover tunnels connecting the future CCL6 Prince Edward Station to the existing CCL Marina Bay Station, has been awarded to Koh Brothers Building & Civil Engineering Contractor (Pte.) Ltd. at a contract sum of S$225.35M. Woh Hup (Private) Limited has been appointed to extend the Kim Chuan Depot.
The expansion will cater to future needs and this includes almost doubling the depot’s housing capacity from 70 to 133 trains. The integrated depot will also house 550 buses, which will allow better land optimisation. The contract to construct the Kim Chuan Depot Extension was awarded at a contract sum of approximately S$1.21 billion. The four-kilometre CCL6 will have three stations and will close the loop for the Circle Line (CCL) by connecting HarbourFront Station to Marina Bay Station. When the CCL6 stations of Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward are completed around 2025, the CCL will have a total of 33 stations, including 12 interchange stations with other MRT lines.
It will also expand the rail network to areas such as Spottiswoode and the southern edge of our existing CBD. With CCL6, commuters will enjoy a direct route between areas in the west like Pasir Panjang and Kent Ridge and key employment areas in the Central Business District, as well as upcoming developments in the Marina Bay area. Commuters travelling from areas like Paya Lebar and Mountbatten will also enjoy faster access to the retail and office centres in the HarbourFront area.
